CLASSROOM DEMO · PRIVACY
What your visit reveals.
This independently operated classroom demonstration automatically records basic connection details when you load a page. It is not a government or council website.
What is recorded
Each page visit records the public IP address seen by our server, the page requested and the date/time. Depending on the operator's settings, IPinfo, PHP-based GeoIP, or both may estimate city, region and country. Both sources are stored separately for classroom comparison. This is not GPS or a precise street location. VPNs, mobile networks and proxies can make the estimate inaccurate.
When does logging happen?
Public informational pages log automatically when requested. The separate university redirect demonstration first shows a disclosure page at /uni.php, then logs and redirects only after you click Continue. There is no optional analytics consent form. This site is intended for an informed classroom demonstration of information websites can receive from ordinary connections.
How data is used and stored
Logs are stored in a private MySQL database on our hosting provider and shown only on a password-protected operator dashboard. The example implementation deletes records older than 30 days when it receives new visits or when an administrator opens the dashboard. A separate scheduled cleanup is recommended for reliable deletion. We do not use the logs for ads or sell them.
Third-party services and server logs
If the operator enables IPinfo, the public IP address is sent to IPinfo. PHPGeo reads a local MaxMind GeoLite2 file if installed; otherwise Hostinger may supply country-only GeoIP data. Local lookups do not send an extra lookup request to MaxMind. No geolocation source gives reliable street-level location. The hosting provider may independently collect routine server and security logs.
Privacy questions and legal compliance
The site operator must supply their identity, contact information, and an appropriate UK GDPR lawful basis before running this demonstration with other people. A privacy notice alone does not establish that legal basis. For classroom use, explain logging to participants in advance, limit access to the intended group, and delete records promptly once the lesson is over.
Operator details and data-handling terms must be completed before publishing. This starter site does not provide a configured contact address.
